Karl leads Project Rome’s healthcare practice on communication and engagement. He is currently working at executive level developing and implementing the Strategy for Bradford Teaching Hospital’s Foundation Trust and with a series of other clients developing their profile and delivery.
Karl recently led the successful community bid for Well North funding securing investments of £2 million into some of the most deprived communities in Yorkshire; he is now Program Director for the Well Bradford project.
In 2014 Karl was a Director at the Northern Health Science Alliance (the lobbying body created by the Northern Russell Group Universities and Teaching Hospitals). By the end of his year in post with the NHSA he had secured millions of pounds of investment for health sciences in catapult and other funding.
Karl was an Executive Board Director of Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust for 5 years. He successfully led the high-profile campaign to save the Children’s Heart Unit for closer by the NHS. Until 2008, Karl was the Executive Director for Communications & Corporate Affairs for the Yorkshire and Humber Strategic Health Authority.
Before joining the National Health Service, Karl worked advising on over 80 national and international M&As as a Partner at Finsbury Financial Public Relations. He started his career working at a junior level in politics for both Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and Hillary Clinton.
Karl is a graduate of universities of Swansea and London and lectured in Communications at Leeds Business School. He is a Trustee of The Dean Clough Foundation and Vice Chair of the mental health charity Community Links.
